The Avalon
Hotel is situated in a quiet, elegant Georgian crescent in
Bloomsbury. Bloomsbury is known as a literary centre in Britain
and is characterised by noble houses in elegant squares - it is
still a favourite area for writers, artists, painters, musicians
and lawyers. The area is home to the new British Library, the
British Museum, the University of London and many teaching
hospitals.
Bloomsbury adjoins the busy West End theatre and restaurant
district and the financial commercial centre of the City, yet is
generally quiet and respectable.
Built in 1807, the hotel building is located centrally on the
crescent of Cartwright Gardens and overlooks the gardens in which
there are tennis courts available for use by guests. The
traditional decor brings to mind the immense history of the area.
